As per the related year plan, Haritha Ecological Institute on behalf of Haritha Association for Learning from Environment (HALE) is organizing the annual event of our NCRI , MHRD, Govt. of India, project on Wednesday the 26th of January, 2011.
Main features of the event:
1.Exhibition of Teaching Learning Material (TLM), household utilities, toys, making of raw incense sticks made with Bamboo;
2.Release of Bamboo TLM Manual and CD(Final Product expected).
3.Release of Manual and CD(Final Product expected) of Lessons through productive activities with B amboo.
4.Productive activities reports by students; Demonstrations by students;
5.Project Report for the one supported by NCRI.
Bamboo is a very special plant: it is a quickly growing plant; it is usually ready for usage within three to five years after its plantation; as the matured branches are used up, new ones get ready; it can be used as an alternative to iron in many cases. Until now bamboo has been used for house construction, household utilities and decorations. Haritha, which researches on new construction models with bamboo, has started conception and development of Teaching and Learning Material (TLM) with bamboo. Bamboo usage ensures, among other things, creativity, productivity, closeness with nature without doing any harm to environment…; many such benefits are inherent to its use.
Since 1988, initiated by Dr. P. Sudhakar, currently research faculty at the Center for Rural Development & Technology (CRDT), IIT – Delhi, Haritha has been working on the development of Holistic education by relating Main stream curricular education with productive and environmental activities. Haritha has been attempting to and moving forward silently in this direction for the past two decades.
Haritha is a small School and Research center; it is also a nodal centre of Environmental education for Khammam district. It is registered and recognized as an NGO with the name, Haritha Association for Learning from Environment (HALE). It is working in association with Organizations with compatible aims such as the Center for Environment Education (CEE), Asha for Education, National Green Corps (NGC), etc. The National Council of Rural Institutes (NCRI) under the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, has awarded this prestigious project to Haritha thus supporting it and enabling it to take its efforts further. This Annual Event is being held as part of this NCRI project.
